How to Commission a Custom Pet Portrait Decoration

What are Custom Decorations?

One of my most popular launches in recent years, Custom Pet Portrait Decorations are really unique and special way to capture your Pet's character. Perfect for so many occasions and guaranteed to be treasured for a lifetime.

Decorations will vary in exact dimension depending on the shape of your Pet, but as a rough guide, they are around 10cm tall (excluding the ribbon). They are made from laser cut wood and hand-painted to include all the little quirks and markings that make your Pet one of a kind. Choose from a wide range of organza ribbon colours to finish.

Image Guide

Getting the right kind of reference image is really important to achieving the best result. As these are laser cut and the image is burned onto the wood digitally, it's even more important than a regular illustration commission that your final reference image is right. The general rules about lighting, angle and pose in my regular Image Guide all still apply, but with a few extra requirements that I've outlined below...

How a typical order works

If you're looking at this guide after seeing this product advertised online, or you've been directed here by me after an enquiry, here's how each order usually goes to help you understand the process and what I need from you...

1. Get in touch and tell me which type of Decoration you'd like, festive or regular. If you want a festive Decoration with a specific accessory, let me know if you have a preference and I can see if this is possible, or suggest an alternative (not all accessories will work for all Pets).

2. Review my Custom Decoration Reference Image Guide and make sure your Images show your Pet clearly and with none of the following:

  • no accessories
  • no wide-open mouths
  • no obscured outlines

(collars and bow ties are ok, as long as you would be wanting them to be included exactly as they are).

3. Send your images over email or on Instagram - the more the merrier, but with at least one that fits all my reference image requirements! I will then confirm which photo would make for the best decoration, or if I need some more images still.

4. Once we're both happy with the main reference image that's been chosen, I'll book you in and I can send you either a PayPal link, bank transfer details, or you can order via my website, whichever is easiest and best for you. If you aren't ordering via the website, this is when I'll take the postage details. If the order is a gift and going direct to the recipient, let me know and I can add in a personal greeting from yourself as a little note within the packaging.

5. Once payment has been received, I will make a start on preparing the image for cutting. If you've paid for festive additions, I'll send you a digital proof so you can make sure you're happy with the size and positioning.

6. Once your decoration has been cut and painted, I will send you a photo update so you can check you're completely happy with the end result, and I can make any necessary tweaks or finishing touches (please note that at this point, the shape cannot be changed). This part of the process usually takes between 7 - 10 days, sometimes longer during the festive period.

7. Your Decoration will be packaged and sent out using a Royal Mail '24 Hour Tracked' delivery service if you're based in the UK (1 - 2 working days), or a Royal Mail 'International Tracked' delivery service if you're based abroad (5 - 7 working days).

I’m aware this is a lot of information in one go, so if you have any questions please do let me know, but hopefully I’ve covered everything!
